Well today’s guest is a successful game developer and now a reviewer at Touch Arcade and he shares his tips from being on both sides of the table. Also listen to the part of the show where he shares the exact site he uses to find games to review.

Ben Jarris is the Digital Creative Director and Co-Founder of App in the Box.

Show Notes

Getting Game Reviewers to Write About Your App

Game reviewers pick the apps they review by going to specific websites so be sure your app is there waiting to be reviewed. Game reviewers are always looking for something that is not only new, but also different and preferably has a personal story angle.

Another way to get a reviewer to write about your app is to contact one and request for a write up. Ben advises that if you do this, first be sure to develop a genuine relationship with the reviewers. How? Give feedback of their reviews. Then, if you are going to pitch for a review, give the reviewer a good idea of what the app is all about and be ready with a good story of how the app came about – a sort of insider info to make the app interesting enough for the reviewer.

Ben also advises to always contact the newest guy, the newest reviewer. Less people attempt to ask them for specific reviews so you have more chances of being indulged by the reviewer.

Where to go to Find the Apps to Review

Ben advises to be sure to go to forms in Touch Arcade because the Touch Arcade form is the first place where the new games are tried out and then the rest of the other sites just pick them from there. If an app builder can get his apps talked about in Touch Arcade, basically he will find it easier to get press for his app.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to build an app?

Marketing is 80% of the job. Be prepared with a great press kit that can answer their questions point by point and a great video.
