I have introduced using Apple Search Ads to do keyword research in a previous video and for one of my clients, we even doubled his downloads using this tactic. We plugged his app in Apple Search Ads and Apple recommended keywords which we should use, this included misspelled words which we optimized and became number one for that keyword.

Since then, I have started using another tool called AppFollow.io specifically the Search Ads Quality Score section. The tool is absolutely free. To get here, go to ASO Tools tab after logging in. Enter your app name in the blank field and AppFollow will give you exactly what search ads would give you. The cool thing with this tool is that it will give you the score even if you do not install the Chrome Extension that I have mentioned in the past. Once this list is presented to you, you can analyze which words are relevant to you and plug them in other ASO tools such as AppTweak, Sensor Tower or Mobile Action for you to get the difficulty and traffic scores to decide if they are worth going after.

You can also plug these keywords into AppAnnie to see many many apps show up using those words. If there are less than a hundred apps showing for the keyword, there is a high likelihood that you will rank well for it. If your app is not out yet, I would recommend putting a competitor’s app name and do the same process.
