List-Building Strategies

Jorge first learned the importance of list building when he was able to get a 16,000 email listthrough an info product he built for the Spanish market. He shares through experience that this is the most important part of marketing.

For his first app, Telzen, hetried to got it done on one of the existing one-app-a-day but the prices these OneApps were charging were too steep.  So he decided to build his own OneApp version and in 2012 he came up with one that announced “Who else wants to download paid games in the App Store totally free?”

He put up this OneApp in Facebook and tried to drive traffic to it and tested it at $500 (he sold his car). He scaled up to $7,000 and got 250,000 installs for OneApp. To afford the $7,000 fee for the scale up, Jorge was monetizing the traffic with Chartboost ads. The ACPM of Chartboost at 2013 was high.

All of these efforts were for a specific purpose: to increase list building.  Out of this, Jorge created his landing page. Jorge was able to build a list of 40,000 email addresses since he made sure that folks who visit his Facebook apphad to enter their email addresses.
