About the Episode

Today’s guest has over 65,000 users on his app that allows you to rent your data and get paid. He shares how he came up with this idea and how he was able to successfully launch it on Product Hunt. Also, listen to the part of the show when he shares the tool he used to reach out to me and other publications.

John Robin is Founder at Rentork.

Show Notes

Successfully Launching on Product Hunt

John got lucky as he posted Rentork just a day before launch but the folks at Product Hunt saw that his product was good and decided to feature him on that day. There were similar apps like Rentork but the difference with their product was that all the user needs to do was fill out their profile and they can then go on with their lives as it works outside the app. No need to watch ads or any other complicated process. Because of this, they got lots of comments in Product Hunt as people became curious about how it works.

Reaching Out to Publications

John used a software to find journalist, writers, freelancers and the like. In this tool, you simply type your keywords then it gives you a list of those folks whom to send your story and your pitch. He starts with specific key words when sending cold emails and when he gets feedback, he starts building a relationship with them and then sends his articles after that. Subject lines that works for him include attention grabbers and ensuring personalized message bodies by mentioning the name of receiver.
