Finding the value to get more clients
Listen to your clients. Understanding that technology does not necessarily solve consumers’ problems; in some cases it creates more problems. Doug cited the issue with going online in the earlier days to order a product and struggling with slow internet connection. It was so much easier to go out and buy the product. This was until someone saw the value of the convenience of online shopping and made it easier for shoppers to order via the internet.
How to make an idea profitable
To make an idea profitable focus on the long haul. Watch the users. Pay attention to what they want. Rather than watching the ball, play the game. To illustrate, Doug uses the analogy of a player watching the scoreboard instead of the ball. This is like an app developer who never emails his users. The idea will become profitable if it delivers what the user needs or wants.
