Show Notes
Bringing WWE Content Into the Mobile Space
WWE moved to mobile as they wanted to be where their viewers are. They saw that a lot of people are moving away from desktop and are consuming content via mobile. They became the # 1 sports channel in YouTube and they know that a lot of the content are moved to mobile devices upon viewing. They realized that if they don’t offer mobile as an option, they won’t get the users to go there. They wanted to be as accessible as possible so the idea was not to create just one destination but a variety of it. This included online games, OTTs, apps, etc. They also excelled in their engagement factor reaching 600 million social followers.
Navigating the Corporate Environment
From Rob’s start up mindset and experience, he shares that it would be good to understand what you are stepping into before you step into it. It would also help if you have the background on what it is like to begin a startup and what is that going to do for you when you move into a mature company. Rob believes that his background in working with a couple of pioneer digital media companies gave him the advance knowledge of the digital platform and what it takes to be successful in mobile so when he walked into these established companies, he already recognized that they have a different mentality compared from the digital start up landscape. Rob took the opportunity to flourish by taking different aspects out of mature companies that has already gone through the aches and pains and brought it to startup.
