What is up?

I am Steve P. Young not to be confused with the other Steve Young who played for the San Francisco 49’ers. I’m not as athletic, tall, or smart as that guy. I live out in the Bay Area. I married my high school sweetheart and now we have two lovely kids. I am grateful for everything that I have and being able to do what I love.
My entrepreneurial journey started in elementary school where I sold cassette tapes to my classmates. I was always someone who was doing things on the side throughout my corporate career.
Back when the first iPhone was created, I started letting my then 2-year-old son play a few educational games on there. I noticed that the apps were helping him learn and having a positive impact on him.
So I got into apps…

In 2011, I taught myself how to code in Corona and my first app hit #8 under educational games. I started making a few hundred dollars a month, but had no idea what I was doing.
Starting the podcast changed everything.
I started executing everything I was learning from my guests and sharing what I learned. Just a few months of starting the podcast, people started coming to me for app marketing help. I resisted at first, because I was still learning, but they still trusted me to help.

Enough of the audience started hiring me that just 7 months after starting the podcast, I left my start-up job in San Francisco to run App Masters full-time.

Now where we’ve helped 12 clients (and counting) get featured by Apple, hit the #2 paid app overall, and get coverage on Mashable, Venture Beat and other major publications. I also write about app marketing on The Next Web, Entrepreneur.com, and on our blog.

What is up?!

My Story

My entrepreneurial journey started in elementary school where I sold cassette tapes to my classmates. I was always someone who was doing things on the side throughout my corporate career.

Back when the first iPhone was created, I started letting my then 2-year-old son play a few educational games on there. I noticed that the apps were helping him learn and having a positive impact on him.

So I got into apps…

In 2011, I taught myself how to code in Corona and my first app hit #8 under educational games. I started making a few hundred dollars a month, but had no idea what I was doing.

Matthew Hall (Crossy Road creator) and me at WWDC 2015

Then in 2013 I decided to start a podcast so I could pick the brains of app creators that I admired including the co-founder of Shazam, Tapbots, Crossy Road, etc.

Mission of App Masters

As an indie app creator myself, I know how difficult it is to “make it” in the app business.

App Masters Connect April 2017

Through the podcast, blog and YouTube channel we want to bring you the most action-packed advice about product design, app marketing, business and app design.

I don’t focus on the development side of things, because I feel anyone can get anything built.

But…

How do you know that an idea is worth building? How do you create a design that users will love and that Apple will notice? What app launch strategies are working in today’s environment?

These are the questions that I want to answer.

I’ve run many app marketing events with 100s of speakers and Steve is one of the best. He brings a lot of up to date knowledge, based on real life experience and translates it into actionable tactics and strategies. Not only that but he is a great presenter that keeps the energy high and the audience super-engaged.
